History:

In 1946, one man established a company by the name of “Derivados de Leche La Esmeralda”, which began and continues to be a family business. The company is in a town called San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.

By the end of the 80’s, the company had grown and expanded to the whole country, in spite of the economic situation that Mexico was going through.

In the 90´s, it was consolidated as a leader in the Mexican market.
Since 2000, there isn’t a warehouse, store or self-service price club in Mexico that doesn’t have our products. This was also the year when it began exporting; the FDA has authorized us to export to the USA. Four of the major customers with whom the company has worked for several years are: YUM (KFC and Pizza Hut) and Domino's Pizza. The company now has more than 2,500 employees.

Mission:

To provide national dairy products produced with the highest quality, freshness and flavor. To customize the different dairy products, such as cheeses, creams and butter, according to the needs of the clients, always with top quality and the presentation they require, ensuring that this will be respected, as long as the contracts are closed for one container or more.

Location:

Mexico is located in North America; its neighbors being the United States of America in the north and Belize and Guatemala to the south.

General specifications:

The company has recently completed a major investment that has allowed it to extend and modernize its production plant in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and to expand into new foreign markets, working more efficiently with German, Spanish and American state of the art  technology in machinery, among which we have the well-known Alpma, Ulma and Green Bay.

This improvement allows us to increase our volume of production and focus on optimizing efficiency in every part of the process. This also enables us to cope with current market conditions. The plant has increased its milk reception capacity, improved the standardization of its production processes and packaging of its products, thus guaranteeing the delivery of a high quality product in excellent conditions. Now we produce more and better with the same amount of raw material.

Consortium Algil produces about 160 products in its plant, in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, including a great variety of semi-ripe, ripe and fresh cheeses, as well as other dairy products. No other company in the market has the same variety of products that we currently handle. We have different brands that were assigned by type or product segment, including: Esmeralda, Mariposa, El Ciervo, Bel Paese, Select Dairy and La Campesina Holandesa.

Some market investigations show that the trend is oriented towards natural and healthy products, which is why we have developed a new line of light cheeses, such as: Panela Light, Oaxaca Light, Manchego Light,  and American Light Cheeses. For the last two years the high acceptance of this new kind of products has allowed us to increase our sales significantly.

In addition to the cheese that is produced for the retail market, we also manufacture products, for institutional clients, such as: diced mozzarella cheese, using a quick freezing system (IQF) for Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza, with whom we have signed contracts which guarantee the quality, delivery and supply that the customers require.

We emphasize customer service and have made tremendous changes over the past 10 years in this specific area because customer satisfaction is crucial to us.

Our policy is based on investment which enables us to expand our production capacity and improve the quality of our products by acquiring cutting edge machinery as well as better facilities, and this has allowed us to proudly be among the three main cheese factories in Mexico.
